Scampston during The First World War
Date posted: 17 September 2018
Scampston Conservatory commemorates the end of The Great War with new display stands.

To commemorate 100 years since the armistice of 1918, five of our Heritage and Learning Centre volunteers have put together an impressive body of work in the Conservatory, showcasing local life during the period of conflict.

Using research gathered from a variety of primary and secondary resources, the group have produced two displays entitled 'The Front' and 'The Home Front', which can be enjoyed by visitors to the Walled Garden. These displays bring to life the unfailing support of local people towards the war effort and provide fascinating insights into the stories of those living in and working for the estate at the time.

We would be delighted to welcome to the Conservatory to enjoy the results of our volunteers' dedication to explore this chapter of Scampston's history.
