About the Estate
A Diverse Rural Enterprise
Scampston Estate (near Malton) and Lowthorpe & Harpham Estates (near Driffield) represent a diverse rural business comprising interests in agriculture, horticulture, tourism, property management, arboriculture, and field sports.
These Estates have been owned, lived in and cared for by their current owners, the Legard family, and their direct St Quintin ancestors for over 800 years in the case of Harpham, and around 300 years for Scampston.
Conservation
We take great pride in the conservation of both nature and heritage at Scampston.
Scampston Estate is currently working closely with Natural England on a ‘Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Scheme’ covering the management of hedgerows, field margins, parkland and wetland habitats for ground nesting birds. This Scheme is already providing significant ecological benefits for the natural environment at Scampston.
We also spend a lot of time and resources managing the heritage assets at Scampston, including the Hall and its fine art collection as well as a range of other important landscapes and buildings on the Estate.
