When is the best time to visit the garden?

The Walled Garden looks at its best from the end of May through until the end of August. It is an unusually late garden.

However, a key component of the design is to create interest throughout the year. To admire the structure of the garden you are best visiting earlier in the season. For beautiful autumnal shades, particularly with the grasses, then September and October is the best time to come.

If you are visiting the Walled Garden in April you will be offered a free return voucher to use later on in the season.

What are the opening times for the Hall & Garden?

For our full opening times please see Opening Times & Prices

The Gardens are open annually from the end of March until the end of October, Wednesday – Sunday, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays, 10am – 5pm.

The Hall opens mid-May until at the end of July. The Hall is viewed by guided tours at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm. Public guided tours run on Wednesday – Friday and Sundays, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays.

How long does a visit to Scampston take?

How long is a piece of string! We would normally recommend that you leave at least an hour to explore the Walled Garden and Conservatory. If you are a keen gardener you will probably want at least two hours.

To explore the Parkland and Hall gardens you will need a further hour at least. The advised route is just under one mile, so it depends on the speed you wish to explore at.

A hall tours takes approximately 40 minutes and these run in the afternoon.

There is also plenty of temptation in the Garden Café with our freshly baked scones and delicious lunches, enough to keep you busy for a further hour!
