Our first sculpture exhibition of the season has been created by York-based teacher and artist Simon Bull. His sculptures are designed to help frame a view or draw your eye to a part of the garden.

Simon strives to create simple forms which enhance a garden rather than overpower it. The materials he uses are selected to complement and echo the colours and textures found within a garden.

Rather than strive for perfection, the rough finish of the welding and imperfections within the concrete bases are an important part of the final aesthetic. He believes that this approach leads to a more natural and authentic piece of work.

The sculptures will be featured at various points around the walled garden and will be available to view with an entry ticket between Wednesday and Sunday each week (10am-5pm).

Originally from Leeds, Simon studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne before settling in York to pursue a career teaching Engineering.
